Futurama was first broadcast on FOX in the year 1999. It aired four years until it was cancelled in 2003. Comedy Central revived it in 2009, before its second cancellation by 2013 Hulu revived Futurama for the second time in 2022. The 11th season will air in 2023.
Matt Groenig, the creator of Futurama, explained in an interview with The Los Angeles Times following the second cancellation of the show in 2013, the inspiration behind the Futurama character illustrations. Groenig explained that he and executive producer David [X. Cohen] discussed all the characters together and collaborated. “My style of drawing is pretty crude and simple+-I cannot draw beautiful women. Not even beautiful cyclops-women–so, I gave my drawings to real artists who improved them, then I messed around with them. The Simpsons doesn’t have any sexy women, but the animators can draw beautiful women in their style. This was a pleasant surprise for me. “I wanted to create a sci-fi heroine, but I didn’t want to offend the fans so I only gave her one eye.”
He added, “The cartoon Leela was much more conventionally sexual.” It’s funny how cartoonists or animators draw beautiful women with noses so small. I gave her more of an Olive Oyl-like nose. You don’t notice that it is there anymore. The animators were horrified by this disgusting horror character. It’s probably not even visible to you, since it’s only a nose. “And then she dressed up like Ripley in the first Alien film.”

Maurice LaMarche – who voiced Kif in Futurama – explained to Impose magazine the differences between voicing a cartoon for adults and a cartoon for children. He said, “I have done cartoons aimed at children. Handy Manny and The Popples.” “I don’t think you can bring cynicism or edge to those cartoons. You have to have a nice attitude and play it for the children. There are cartoons for both adults and children. Pinky and the Brain, for example, is a cartoon geared towards both kids and adults. However, it wouldn’t be considered an “adult cartoon” because the characters didn’t say “hell” or “damn.” I still approach the characters the exact same way. What part of me is this speaking to? What part of me comes through in this character? “That’s how I approach the character… like a suit.”
West also revealed to Impose Magazine which characters he enjoys voicing. He has voiced Philip J. Fry as well as Professor Farnsworth and Victor Zoidberg, among others. He said: “I’m never able to give a satisfactory answer when I am asked this question, as I have put so much effort into each and every one of them.” “I do. “I really do.” It’s fun to play every character they let me. “It’s just like picking a kid, right?”
LaMarche also stated that Kif was his favorite character. He has voiced Hedonismbot as well as Dr. Perceptron and Walt. He also voiced Morbo, Lrrr, Lrrr, and Kif. He said, “I love Kif. And he’s evolved quite a lot as the show has progressed.” “He started off as a character that was just a sigh, and a rolling of the eye. It’s like being stuck in an unhappy marriage. He became a really sweet character, who is vulnerable and gentle but also has a heroic side. He saves the day, just like in “Where the Buggalo Roam”. He has a wonderful relationship with Amy, although this relationship is tested in the current season. I won’t go into detail. Lrrr, that was fun. This big, bombastic planet king who is a bully and who thinks nothing about vaporizing anyone has this strange politeness code. Lrrr has a great story coming up. He goes to ComiCon, and nobody notices.”
LaMarche named “Jurassic Bark”, “Luck of the Fryish”, and “Jurassic Bark”, as his two favorite Futurama Episodes. He said, “I love the Luck of the Fryish’ and Jurassic Bark’–they’re pretty much everyone’s favourite episodes.” “They are the most emotional episodes.” The more emotional the show was, the better I thought it would be. In our first two seasons, I thought the writing was a bit cynical, but as we became more sentimental, the show has improved. In a future episode, the Professor will invent a time-machine that can only travel into the past. The consequences of this are heartbreaking as well as hilarious, and they attempt to get back to the time that they were in. I think it’s the Emmy-winning episode. “I won’t say any more than that. But that’s my favourite episode of the new crop.”
